The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Triple Aim framework was developed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Cambridge, Massachusetts. According to IHI, the Triple Aim ultimately refers to three essential components that should simultaneously be achieved in order to create the foundation of a very successful system of health care. Triple Aim includes “improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction), improving the health of populations, and reducing the per capita cost of health care” (IHI, 2015). The IHI has been developing strategies to achieve this goal and offers a plethora of resources explaining why they view the Triple Aim as such a crucial element of healthcare, addressing common questions, and offering suggestions about how it can be accomplished. The Triple Aim section of MITE offers a wide range of resources including many offered through the IHI website.
